Medical Examinations not included in NHS
Drug Abuse Services
We offer mammograms as part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme. All female patients aged between 50-65 years will be automatically invited to attend the mobile breast screening unit at South Molton Hospital. If you fall outside these age groups but believe yourself to be at increased risk of breast cancer please discuss this with your doctor, as in some circumstances you may be included. If you have concerns and queries about the service please discuss this with your doctor or one of the Practice Nurses.
The next screening cycle is due in 2009
You will be automatically informed when your smear is due. You can then make an appointment with the practice nurse for this. Smears are usually done every 3 years for women aged 24-50 and every 5 years from age 50-64, and we strongly encourage you have this check. The results do however take about 4-6 weeks to be returned to us. We are able to offer you a private smear for a fee of £49 and the result is available within one week. Please discuss this option with the nurse at the time of your smear.
Minor Surgery and Cryotherapy
We are happy and able to perform a wide range of minor surgical procedures from removal of skin lesions to ingrowing toe nails. Please ask at reception for details.
Medical Examinations – not part of NHS
We offer a wide range of medical examinations e.g. HGV, PSV and Insurance medicals. Unfortunately, these are not covered by the NHS and we charge rates recommended by the British Medical Association.
Up to date prices are available from reception at the surgery.
Drug Abuse Services
Some of our staff have received special training in the management of Drug Abuse and we welcome patients with problems relating to drug abuse. We work in close liaison with North Devon’s Drug Abuse service based at the Quay Centre in Barnstaple. Please make an appointment to see Dr Payne if you would like to discuss these issues further.
